Colorants – Preparation & Addition Guidelines

Colors are used according to their chemical nature to ensure optimal stability and homogeneity within the formulation:

Water-soluble colors:
First prepared as a concentrated stock solution by dissolving them in warm water, then added to the final product within the aqueous phase.

Pigments & Iron Oxides:
These are insoluble materials. They are prepared as a stock dispersion by thoroughly dispersing them in suitable oils or esters, such as IPM or paraffin, before being added to the product to ensure homogeneous distribution and high color stability.

Mica:
Does not dissolve or disperse, but is suspended within the formulation to provide a shimmering effect. It should be added along with a suitable suspending system to prevent settling.

Adherence to preparing colors in stock form before addition is essential for achieving consistent and homogeneous color in the final product.
